Lately I’ve been experimenting with protein shakes. I bought a can of Chocolate Orgain Organic Protein and tried to make a healthy shake. I added some banana, flax seed, ground green tea, almond milk and blended it all in my Ninja blender. I was all set to enjoy some nice chocolatey goodness so I took a sip. After a full body shudder, all I can say is, blech, ick, gross. I hesitated, thinking maybe I just needed to get used to the taste. I mean, a lot of people make these healthy, good-for-you shakes, right?
So I took a few more sips. Nope, not gonna happen. After a few minutes I even felt a little nauseous. Experiment done. Organic crap in the trash. Didn’t even feel guilty about the money wasted. Never having to taste that again was worth it.
I didn’t want to give up though. I’ve been trying to get healthy by joining a gym, doing aquatics for cardio, and Pilates to increase flexibility and muscle tone. My diet also needs some work. Not the healthiest eater by far. Hello! Panda Express, Popeyes Chicken, tacos, Manwich’s, steak. Let’s get real here. I’m not a health nut by any means.
I used to drink SlimFast all the time. Years ago when they came ready to drink in a can. Not the plastic bottles they now come in. I thought, why not? The taste is not bad. Not gritty. And you know what? I compared the can of protein crap next to a can of powered SlimFast and the nutrition is about the same. I think SlimFast is even a little better!
Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit. This is something I can work with. After a few experiments, I discovered the vanilla banana smoothie. My new favorite go-to breakfast. (Also try with SlimFast chocolate powder and blueberries! Yummy)
