Writer’s Block

I’ve heard of writer’s block, but this is ridiculous. I’m not a writer, I’m a story prompter. I am really great at thinking of story ideas. I can plot a story line, set the scene and name my characters. I’ve even gotten so far as writing a few paragraphs. After that, nothing.

I have an entire folder with nothing but story prompts and first liners. Can you make a living being a story prompter?

I want to write. Really I do. The problem is that I want it to be perfect right out of the gate. I worry about grammar and structure. Worry that someone will read it, tell me I have no talent with no business writing a grocery list much less a book.

“I now know what writer’s block is. It’s the fear you cannot do what you’ve announced to someone else you can do, or else the fear that it isn’t worth doing. That’s the rarer form.” Tom Wolfe
